Why are you here?

"Let whoever is in charge keep this simple question in her head, not how
can I always do this right thing myself, but how can I provide for the

Goals 2009

Goals / Strategic Plan 2009

  1. Encourage and invite prospective nurses into the world of Oncology by awarding nursing scholarships to students at local universities/colleges.
    1. Include a one year student membership to ONS and NEWONS.
    2. Promote networking between scholarship recipient and membership by awarding scholarships at chapter meeting.
  2. Contribute to community outreach by encouraging members to bring monetarydonations to each meeting to be donated to a predesignated charity as determined by the Board with input from the membership.
  3. The chapter will contribute $100.00 each month in conjunction with member donations.
  4. Explore new ways to recruit & retain members.
  5. Continue to allocate resources that give continuing nursing education to our membership, i.e. programmed modules as groups, CD programs, and ONS sponsored programs.
    1. Add members to Program Committes to help with CNE applications
  6. Continue to support national ONS activities
  7. Support ONS Foundation raffle for congress
  8. Support other requests from ONS to donate financially
  9. To increase participation in national organization by increasing membership voting in national elections, nominate chapter members for national award and have chapter members participate at national conference.
  10. Develop a quarterly chapter newsletter.

Recognize a Peer

Honor Someone Special
Recognition Program Launched at ONS Congress

ONS proudly introduced the Honor Someone Special program at the 34th Annual ONS Congress in San Antonio, Texas.  This exciting new campaign honors registered nurses who have demonstrated excellence in oncology nursing and a commitment to quality cancer care.

Honor Someone Special is a unique program designed to celebrate individual accomplishments of oncology nurses who make a difference in the lives of people with cancer and their families.

Honor Someone Special will build community awareness as well as help develop a stronger professional recognition program.  The Honor Someone Special program is not an awards program, but instead, it’s a campaign to recognize “moments in time” that will allow patients, families, colleagues, and peers to nominate a well-deserving oncology registered nurse for this special honor.

Honor Someone Special is a simple yet meaningful way to say “thank you” to a cancer nurse who promotes excellence in oncology nursing.  Nominations are accepted year-round with no limitations on the number of nominations.  The only requirement is that nominees must be registered nurses.  To learn more about the Honor Someone Special program visit www.ons.org/honorsomeonespecial.  We thank all ONS chapters for promoting the new Honor Someone Special program to their local members!
